After such a hard year, we are all very happy to say goodbye to 2020 and set new goals for 2021, hoping it will be better than the previous one. According to a YouGov survey in the United States, the most common goals that people have set for themselves to achieve for the new year are:
- increasing physical exercise (46%)
- improving diet (45%)
- losing weight (44%)
- saving money (41%)
But you own a pet and your pet is part of the family: why not draw up a list for the year that has just arrived to complete with your pet?
Here we come to your aid with a practical list of 5 New Year’s resolutions for 2021 to pursue with your pet.
1-Spend more time with your dog or cat
Although for us 2020 was like going on a roller coaster, we could always count on the company of our 4-legged friends, who in many cases benefited from our constant presence within the four walls of the home.
Now that 2021 has arrived and we hope it will bring us back to a gradual normalization of our lives, we must not lose sight of the fact that, while we will return to work and social life, for them the family is the only life. It will therefore be our task not to leave them alone too often and, above all, to try to get them used to our absence again gradually.
2-Do something fun together with your pet
We connect to point 1 of the list and invite you to spend quality time with your dog or cat. The new year could be the right opportunity to dedicate yourself more to play or education: all types of pets benefit from continuous training! In addition to developing new skills, training and play give them many physical and mental stimuli and are also moments to strengthen the bond and improve your communication.
3-Take your pet to the veterinarian
It may seem obvious, but between lockdown, staggered access to clinics and smart working, even your pet’s medical appointments may have suffered slowdowns and postponements. Do not postpone your pet’s medical check-ups! Adopt a proactive approach to his health and well-being by taking him to the clinic for regular visits so that any problem can be discovered and resolved at the very beginning. During check-ups, the veterinarian may also consider it necessary to have your friend undergo certain laboratory tests for purely preventive purposes. It is also during these visits that vaccines or preventive medications against heartworm and other antiparasitic treatments are administered. Never underestimate the importance of care for your pet’s health and well-being.
4-Keep your pet clean and shiny

Treat his coat and take care of his oral hygiene. Plan regular visits to a professional groomer and, when you cannot, ask for advice on how to keep your pet’s skin and coat in optimal condition. Regardless of whether your pet’s grooming is complex or simple, your pet will benefit from daily brushing and from being washed with care. Use our Home line products such as the specific shampoo and the Detangling Conditioner. Also, do not forget that oral health is very important for overall health and well-being. Good oral hygiene is achieved with regular dental care, dental check-ups and a balanced diet.
5-Keep your pet’s weight within healthy limits

Just like us humans, dogs and cats who maintain good physical shape have fewer risks of developing health problems linked to excess weight such as diabetes mellitus, arthritis, heart diseases, liver problems, kidney problems and some forms of cancer. Have him follow a quality diet combined with regular exercise.
We want to conclude with a note: New Year’s resolutions are not always actually pursued. In the relationship with your pet, the most important thing is never to lose sight of his search for attention. Our four-legged friends are part of the family; if we are not able to always fulfill all the New Year’s resolutions, let us make sure to spend time with them every day to play or cuddle them. Grooming sessions are also excellent opportunities for bonding and interaction!
Have you already drawn up your list? Do you have other New Year’s resolutions for 2021 with your pet to add to ours? Let us know if, in your opinion, we have forgotten something!
This year more than ever, we need positivity and enthusiasm.
